2014 Handbook of Prayer

The Handbook of Prayer is a snapshot of the 50 countries in the world where it is hardest to be a Christian. Based on our annual World Watch List - the only annual survey of religious liberty conditions for Christians around the world – it uses data from Open Doors field workers and independent experts to track the deep structures of persecution. This means not only analysing the headline-grabbing incidents of violence and terror, but measuring the everyday life of Christians and the degree of freedom they have to live out their faith in five key areas: private, family, community, national and church life.

The World Watch Map accompanies the Handbook and is designed to be put it in a prominent place in your church or home, to inform people about the extent of persecution in today's world and inspire them to pray for their persecuted family. Alternatively, you can download a copy PDF to your laptop, phone or iPad.

Use the Handbook of Prayer in your individual prayer time to pray around the world for five minutes every day for 50 days!

Place the map in a prominent place – on your church notice board, prayer room, youth group halls etc - to raise awareness of the extent of persecution. Or why not dedicate a five-minute slot in your church service each week to the World Watch List and pray for the top 50 countries over the year - with two weeks to spare!

"What makes the World Watch List so powerful is that it gives the real picture from the grassroots. Nearly 60 years of working with persecuted believers means that Open Doors is trusted amongst the underground Christian communities of the world. This enables us to understand persecution as few others are able to do, and tell their stories as few others can. Please remember them in your prayers."
